:: THE SPACE ::
Located upstairs from the Café Du Nord, the Swedish American Hall was built by Swedish craftsmen in 1907 and retains its considerable Old World charm. With a spectacular grand ballroom and several smaller, equally stunning, rooms it can accommodate almost any event.
The Grand Ballroom, or Freja Hall, is a majestic room with a warm blonde wood floor, a high gabled ceiling and attractive skylights. It has a sizable raised platform at the front for use as a stage or for special seating. It also has a large wrap-around balcony that overlooks the ballroom, which can be set up for additional event seating. As with all the rooms in the Swedish American Hall, the woodwork in the Grand Ballroom is finished in fine Swedish craftsmanship. It is the perfect “undiscovered" venue for weddings, receptions and other fine events.
In addition to the Grand Ballroom, the Swedish American Hall offers smaller rooms for use with your event. Of particular note is Balder Hall, which has similar finish details, including the gabled ceiling and fine Swedish woodwork. Balder Hall is a spacious room with plenty of natural sunlight that streams in through the 10 foot windows that run the entire length of the room.
:: FOOD AND BEVERAGE OPTIONS ::
IN-HOUSE CATERING SERVICES The Swedish American Hall offers gourmet in-house catering for your special event. Our catering operations are directed by Chef John Lamkin, owner and chef of the highly regarded Street Restaurant in San Francisco. We offer a broad range of creative menu choices — whether for a luncheon, elegant sit-down dinner, dinner buffet or classic cocktail reception. To view our catering menu choices, click here.
BAR ARRANGEMENTS Groups planning a private event may offer their guests an open bar with a full range of beverages or a more limited selection to help control costs. You may always set a maximum limit for your bar total or simply let your guests purchase their own drinks with regular "cash bar" or "cash and carry" cocktail service.
OTHER BEVERAGE OPTIONS We will gladly work with you to accommodate all of your beverage requirements. Wine may be purchased by the bottle and offered on the table or buffet. A coffee and tea station can be arranged to compliment a dessert or cake table. Champagne toasts are easily organized with servers distributing pre-purchased champagne by the glass to your guests just before toast-time. Juices and other non-alcoholic beverages may also be offered from the bar or on a buffet.
OUTSIDE CATERING IS PERMITTED The use of outside caterers is permitted at the Swedish American Hall. For an additional fee, outside caterers can use our small prep kitchen.
:: OTHER SERVICES AND CONTACTS ::
We offer one-stop private event services. In addition to catering, our services include entertainment, décor, floral, wedding planning, and a full service staff dedicated to making your event a memorable success.
