The 4AD label's signature project, This Mortal Coil, released three legendary albums before abruptly vanishing in the early 90's. They never toured, since founder Ivo Watts-Russell and participating members of The Cocteau Twins, Pixies, Dead Can Dance, The Breeders, Xymox etc could not be brought together to appear in the same place at the same time.
This Mortal Coil's output focused mainly on reworkings of songs by Tim Buckley, Nick Drake, Syd Barrett and other iconoclastic songwriters of the sixties and seventies - but rearranged with lush strings and an eclectic cast of musicians all centered around the mysterious 4AD label out of London. Buckley's 'Song To The Siren' was immortalized by Cocteau Twins' vocalist Elizabeth Fraser while Big Star's 'You And Your Sister' was heart-wrenchingly re-imagined by Pixies/Breeders bassist Kim Deal.
To capture the original spirit of This Mortal Coil, Halou founder/producer Ryan Coseboom has assembled a group of musicians and vocalists to perform this material live for the first time in the style in which it was originally released. Featuring a full string section and three of the Bay Area's most unique and captivating vocalists, this evening of music will recall the evocative nature of the original recordings and recontextualize the music with newly produced visual projections curated by renowned Los Angeles based design firm The Mystery Parade.
