Located within the historic Swedish American Hall on Market Street are two marvelous live music venues under one roof: The Café DuNord, a night club located below street level, and the Swedish American Hall, an ornate ballroom on the second floor. Each space has a distinctly unique setting and offers an equally distinctive musical experience.
CAFÉ DU NORD
Downstairs, the Café DuNord (named one of “Americas Best Music Venues” by Paste Magazine and San Francisco’s “Best Live Venue of 2012” by the California Culture and Arts Association) is a full service nightclub, bar and restaurant offering national, international, and the best “up and coming” local live music acts nightly in an intimate, upscale environment. SWEDISH AMERICAN HALL
On the second floor of the Swedish American Hall is the building’s showroom, the Freja Ballroom. This stately room features 20 foot ceilings, thick mahogany beams and ornate woodwork throughout and is reminiscent of a church, and in fact, it is one on Sundays (See Reality SF). It makes for a wonderful listening room, and it is here where the Café Du Nord presents its acoustic acts, piano recitals, chanting buddist monks et.al. in a very intimate setting. There is no bar or food service during shows to distract from the experience. It is pure listening. Our small stage has been graced by some of the most wonderful performers in the world. PRIVATE EVENTS
Cafe Du Nord & the Swedish American Hall are located in the heart of San Francisco. Each live music venue has a separate entrance from the street but connect together inside. They can be rented individually, or together for your private event. Both live music venues feature professional stages, and a friendly, experienced Private Event Team to ensure a fantastic private event.
