ABOUT THE SWEDISH AMERICAN HALL

THE SWEDISH AMERICAN HALL
The Swedish American Hall was the vision of famed Swedish architect, Augustus Nordin, who designed more than 350 buildings in San Francisco including the famous Buena Vista Café at Fisherman’s Wharf. It is still owned by the building’s founders, the Swedish Society of San Francisco, who continue to maintain it as a gathering place for the many generations of Swedish Americans from in and around the Bay Area.
Since 2003, the Hall has been operated by the Café Du Nord Partners, LLC, who produce there a wide variety of events and concerts every year. The Du Nord team brings to the Hall the same level of expertise and dedication that has made the Café Du Nord a famous San Francisco destination.
THE FREJA BALLROOM
The Swedish American Hall is a testament to Swedish craftsmanship and design. Each of its 5 event rooms on the four upper floors above the Café Du Nord are distinct in character and infused with Old World charm. On the second floor of the Hall (sorry folks, no elevator yet) is the building’s centerpiece, the Freja Ballroom. This stately room features 20 foot ceilings, heavy mahogany beams, ornate filigree, and a wrap-around balcony. The room has been utilized over the years for hundreds of concerts, dances, weddings, seminars and the like. Its small, raised stage set within an mahogany proscenium is well suited for religious services, small concerts and presenters of all kinds. The room comes with optional roll-out sound and lighting systems and technicians.
THE BALDER HALL
Having four other event rooms on different floors allows for maximum flexibility to accommodate your one-of-a-kind wedding, private party or corporate function. Seen here is the Balder Hall which is connected to the Freja by way of a small bar. It is a smaller, sunny room looking out over Market Street with high ceilings, dark beams and six 12-foot tall leaded glass windows.
The Odin and the Valhalla are the two other main rooms of the Hall. The Valhalla Room is off the kitchen on the third floor and is often used as another breakaway room, green room, or bride’s room. The Odin is a very beautiful room on the ground floor which is often used for business meetings and small seminars.
